Class
9/29/2004
Not much is new since the last post. I'm supposed to get my first test back today in computer science so we'll see how I did on that. I wish we would get our program back too, I want to know how I did. We just got another program assignment that is due next Tuesday but I'm pretty sure I have it 95% done. I finished all the workings of the code but we are supposed to make it look exactly like the demo version, which isn't even working yet, so I have to wait around for that.
The english class is a required class here and most of them take attendence. Well my class doesn't and each class there has been fewer and fewer people showing up. Tuesday only about half the class showed up and I don't think the profressor was very happy. What annoys me is I get no extra benefit from doing everything he says. I've done all my homework and he's given no credit for any of it except the one large assignment we had to turn in.
I've got to head off to lunch and then to class so I'll post later.

It's Been a While
9/27/2004
It has been a while since I last blogged. I haven't really been that busy with homework or anything either so I guess I don't have any good excuses.
Classes are still going pretty well. When I first started school I thought my differential equations class was going to be very hard but since then it has gotten much easier. Linear algebra, however, has gotten to the point where I have no idea what is going on. I can do the math really easily but the form of the questions is strange and throws me off. We have a test next week so I should study up the types of questions. I had my first college test in computer science I last week and I think I did fairly well. I knew all of the answers (at least in my head) but we'll see if I explained everything well enough in writing on the test. I also submitted my first program last week and I'm assuming it will be graded and returned sometime this week. Oh, I almost forgot my english class. It's still as bad as ever. We had an assignment to turn in five sources for this debate we were having and I was one of three in the whole entire class that actually turned in the annoated bibliography that day. Everyone else thought the professor meant print off the actual article or webpage. How stupid can you be?
I've still been meeting people but I haven't actually been doing anything with them. You could consider them acquantainces I suppose. There's a guy that I just met the other day, a few doors down, who is also a computer science major. He talked to me about the program at MTU and also about linear algebra, the class we are both in. He seems like a cool guy. The people in my computer science class are still horribly annoying but there are now two or three of them that I think are okay. They acoomplished this by not shouting out in class or thinking they know everything there is to know about computers.
Today is my busiest day as far as the number of classes I attend. I'm only going to four classes today, but somehow that ended up as my busiest day. I really wish I was allowed to take more credits because it seems like I am always bored and/or doing nothing in the dorm. The lab classes seem to take up a lot more time so I wish I could have taken physics or something this semester too.
Anyway, class is in 20 minutes so I should probably pack up my bag and leave. I'll try and post here more regularly - who knows, maybe it will even help cure my bored-ness.

Half-Day!
9/10/2004
So nothing has been happening lately. I'm starting to get a little bit of homework but not all that much. The English class is frustrating because no one knows what he really wants. Math is also starting to get frustrating because the problems seem like they are impossible. We finally got an assignment in Computer Science I but I've already finished it so that didn't last very long.
Today we had a half-day of school or in my case, no school. All my classes on Friday are noon or later so I didn't have anything. It was "K-Day" today so we went to this state park where they had student organizations setup. Most were frats, etc. so I wasn't very interested. I wanted to try and join this organization about computing and business but they weren't there.
Anyway, the shuttle between the school and the park was supposed to come every half an hour but it was very slow and no one actually stood in the line. We got a ride from some grad students on the way there but on the way back we had to wait about an hour and forty-five minutes just to get on the bus and then the bus ride was another 45 minutes. It was just a long day basically.
I'll probably work on figuring out math this weekend and I guess try working on English. Otherwise I'm free. We have a BBQ tomorrow night too so hopefully that will be fun. A lot of people from our hall are supposed to be going.

Nothing New
9/06/2004
Today my parents left and I pretty much did nothing the rest of the day. I did some homework and then went outside for a little while. TJ came back later on in the day. That's about it.
I don't know if I posted about this or not but I got Linux working fine on my computer now. The reason my computer was messed up a few days ago was because of a problem when I installed Linux. Nothing would boot up at all when I turned on the computer and the easiest way to fix it was to kill everything. I found a way to fix the problem before it starts though and it's all good now.
Tomorrow I have the dreaded English class early in the morning. There's just something about that class that just bothers me. We are going to the Library tomorrow so they can show us around though so we might not do anything special. I also have my main computer science class tomorrow and hopefully I'll get an assignment so I can actually do something.

Saturday
9/05/2004
I had planned on getting up semi-early today (well, Saturday) and then walking along the path next to the water before it got hot out but I quickly messed those plans up. I ended up waking up about 10:30 and didn't even start out until 11:30. I decided to go to the end of the trail though, it's a nice walk and has some cool info boards along the way. Some day I'll have to go across the bridge and look at the other town or go the other way on the path along the nature trail.
Anyway, my parents came up for today and tomorrow for "vacation". Mostly to see me though, because my mom wouldn't take no for an answer if they wanted to go somewhere with me. We ended up going more north and looking at some sights.
My parents brought along some stuff for me. My dad made a set of shelves out of plastic pipe for a corner of our room that had nothing in it. It's about 5'8" or so in height and is really strong so we can put books and stuff on it. I really like the look of it. He also made a stand thing for the top bunk (my bed) so I can set my clock and flashlight on it during the night. It's cool because it uses really strong magnets. He also brought a new phone up for me. It's basically my older phone but in color and with a few more features. I REALLY hate music/weird ringtones and the new phone is full of them. There really isn't a ring that sounds like a phone. The closest one is all digital sounding. Oh well, I'll deal with it I guess. My mom brought up some peanut butter things she made but I don't know how I'm going to eat all the stuff she made. I guess I'll have to give them to other people in the hall too. According to my mom that's what people did in her college, share all the home made stuff.
Tomorrow (or today I guess) I'll probably spend more time with my family. There isn't really anyone around this weekend. I think most people in my hall left. If I have time I'll walk around and see if I can find some people to do something with though.

Weekend!
9/03/2004
The last few days have been pretty interesting. I ran into some problems when I was messing around with my computer and I ended up spending the majority of last night and part of this morning backing stuff up and whiping the computer clean. It's all back to normal now though!
Yesterday we met a guy who lives in the room next to ours that always has the door closed. He's a senior (on the third floor which is kinda weird) and seems like a pretty nice guy. He seems like he knows a lot about what is going on and what classes to take so I can use him for stuff like that.
I'm already getting sick of the food in the cafeteria. Everyday I get a salad for lunch and dinner and it's just starting to taste really bad. Maybe I'll leave it out for a few days. The senior next to us also told me to be creative when it comes to food and mix stuff together and it makes things taste better. He suggested mixing juice or making a milkshake.
I have a little bit of homework for the weekend but it will probably only take an hour or less assuming I understand the math behind it. TJ is gone so I have the room to myself until he comes back. It's kinda boring but even if he was here there would still be nothing to do anyway.
Tonight I went to see Harry Potter at the school's movie room. I don't know the Harry Potter story or anything about it but the movie was pretty good. I also liked how it ate up close to two hours that I would have been spending sitting around complaining that I was bored.
I think I posted a while ago about my cell phone's problems and that I got it fixed under the warranty. Well the warranty expired on the 30th or 31st and guess what, my phone starting having the same problem again these past few days. I can't believe it, just a day or so after the warranty expired!!!!! I just figured I'd live with it because I never use the phone anyway but my dad told me he's getting another one. It's by the same brand though so hopefully this one doesn't suck.

Homework
9/01/2004
After a few days of classes I've discovered that my classes are really not that hard, at least so far. I only get 10-20 problems in each math class, which I guess takes about an hour each, and pretty much no homework yet in anything else. I get extremely bored sometimes now. When the computer science class gets going more I'll probably have programs to write though.
Today I went on a walk on the river path I found on accident the other day. I went pretty far and it has some pretty cool sights on it. When I have more time I'll probably go farther but I was limited because I had to come back to the dorm and eat before I go to class.
My computer science class is full of jerks. The class is taught by a grad. student and they think that they can goof of and talk while he's talking or some of them even correct him if he says something wrong or something they think is wrong. I wish he'd do something about it so they would shut up. But so far I haven't really learned anything in it so I'm trying to read the book too so I can learn by myself too.
I met the guys who live in the dorm room next to ours the other day. One of them is a CS major and the other is a big giant guy. They seem pretty cool but I don't see them often because their door is almost always closed. The guys right across the hall from us always have these really loud guys over in their room. They already managed to miss one class by over-sleeping their alarm.
There's probably more stuff to talk about but I can't remember right now.
