Busy?
3/20/2005
I've been busy on and off this past week. I have a few tests coming up so I've been trying to get homework done early so it doesn't get in the way of studying.

I also have been planning out my schedule for next semester's classes. I'm trying to take a bunch of credits again because I haven't fully decided on a 'concentration area' for my major. The way I have it planned out right now I'll be taking two computer science courses, two general education classes, physics, a 'virtual-business' course, and two PE credits if I'm able to get into them. Unfortunately, since my first semester was fairly light in credits I don't get to register earlier than most freshmen this time. Because of that, I'll probably have to change a lot of my schedule because stuff will fill up.

I've been fooling around with Linux on my laptop for some time now and I believe I have finally gotten the powersaving utilities to work correctly. Now when the laptop is on battery it says around 400 mhz and when on AC power it jumps around all the way up to 1.5 ghz, depending on what it needs. The fan still kicks in occasionally while running at 400 mhz which is strange because it doesn't in Windows. I think it might have something to do with the speical laptop utilities but I don't know where I'd look to change that.

Edit: I added the my webcam to the sidebar so you can look out my window.
Spring break and the fall of Atlantis
3/07/2005
Spring break started Saturday and I've been laying around at home since then so there isn't a lot to report here.

I've received my new XBox power cable. They were recalled because there was a small chance that it could cause some fires or electrical damage. The new plug has a giant plug at the end which even has a reset button on it. To me it seems like they went a little overboard -- or the problem is in the Xbox not the cord.

I wrote a program to capture webcam images from Michigan Tech's webcams because I wanted to see when they took down the Atlantis snow statue. Today, they finally took it down with some construction equipment. Thankfully, my program was running smoothly and caught all the action. I made an animated GIF out of the pictures so you can see it all happen.

Click here to view the image. I suggest doing the following in order to make it run the smoothest; right click > save the image and then open it in Internet Explorer/Mozilla or any other browser to view it. If you just use the Windows picture preview thing it doesn't show the whole animation. If you just click the link above then it will be choppy the first few times through the animation but once it's loaded it will speed up.

I thought it was pretty cool how they took it down that way. Seemed to happen fairly quickly too.
