Weekend trip
7/28/2005
My family is going to the Mississippi River for a weekend trip so if anyone needs me they can call my cell. I'm probably bringing my laptop and the hotel probably has Internet so I might be online, I don't know.

School = 29 days

I talked with a friend from school and the hall we are living in this year has a bunch of the same people as last year. Well, at least the normal ones. It should be a good mix of new people and old people in the hall.
School = soon
7/26/2005
School is now less than a month away. Right now I'm planning on moving back in August 26th, a Friday, so I can beat most of the rush of people moving in during the weekend. I'm both excited to go back and not at the same time. I guess it's that whole not knowing where I'll be next summer thing. At least I'm taking a full load of credits at school so that will keep me somewhat occupied, hopefully. I'm actually a little excited to see some of the people there again and to goto the weekend movie or other random things.

Nothing exciting to report with work.

I've been messing with the MythTV webadmin feature lately. It's really cool, a lot better than the SnapStream one I used in Windows. In MythTV I added my music and my old recorded movies and I can download it all from the webadmin as well as schedule shows. I'll probably never use it but it's still pretty cool. I'm having problems setting a password on it right now but once I figure that out I'll let other people see it.
School etc.

New pictures of the DHH furniture can be seen on MTU's website: http://www.aux.mtu.edu/ressvcs/tours.shtml. It looks pretty cool.

I don't know if I'm excited to go back to school now or not. Call me a freak if you want but I really enjoy learning the stuff in my field. But I really enjoy being home and being with my friends. Now that summer is almost over I keep thinking and wondering if this might be my last full summer in Green Bay. I couldn't find an internship at a large company this summer but I have a feeling I'll get a much better chance at it for next summer. Now I don't know if I want that or not. Sure, it will be great for my career but I have a feeling I will get very lonely if I was in a different city and not to mention being nearly impossible to have a relationship.

I guess I don't know what to do. I'm finding it hard to balance things.
Ubuntu!
7/20/2005
Today I received the Ubuntu CDs I had ordered a while ago. This version is 5.04 and is loads better than the last one. It's so good that I switched over to Linux about a month ago.

Ubuntu CDs

As you can see I have a bunch of them. If you would like a free Ubuntu cd then IM/call/leave me a comment and let me know. I have a lot of the x86 version (normal Intel/AMD processors), two PowerPC versions, and two AMD64 versions. It also comes with a Live CD so you can try Linux without actually installing it. You just put it in your CD drive and start up the computer. As long as you don't delete files off your windows partition inside the CD, nothing will change your computer! It's a harmless way to try out Linux.
Good night

I fixed the Atom feed problem I've had since I made this blog. Since I made my own template and took out a bunch of Blogger tags I didn't like it looks like I took out one that told browsers that there is an Atom feed associated with the site. Anyway, now you can subscribe and only come when you have to, since you hate coming here.

I've been using Yahoo! Music Unlimited now instead of Napster. So far I like it but I can't decide if Napster or Yahoo has a larger selection of music. To help me out, leave a comment with some artists I can check out (good ones, please). I need to listen to some new stuff anyway.

When I got my new cell phone plan I thought I'd be using it a lot more often. Because of this I decided to get the 450 anytime minutes plan (also because this plan has rollover minutes). It turns out I couldn't even use 50 minutes my first month and this month seems to be on pace for the same amount. I can downgrade if I want but I might wait until school starts to see if I use it more often. At least the minutes rollover.

I might look into using PHP for this site instead of plain html/css. I could probably do a lot more with PHP, but I don't know if I want to sit around and learn it this summer. Maybe during school.

Good night.
The Weekend
7/16/2005
I think working a full week has made me lose track of what I do for fun. Every weekend I find myself doing absolutely nothing during the day. I usually drive somewhere, like Walmart or ShopKo, and just browse for no reason. Then when I come home I find myself with nothing to do again. At least I do things with people during the night sometimes.

The sprinklers turned on at work Friday and left water spots all over the front of my car. I took it to the car wash so I could get them off quickly but they didn't come off. My dad helped me early today and washed the car with a mixture of vinegar and water. Thankfully, that seemed to work.

Well I guess I'll go and try to find something to do.
Thinking
7/14/2005
We saw Batman Begins a few days ago. It was a pretty good movie, I think I liked it better than Spiderman/Dare Devil/other super hero movies. Instead of some freaky bad guy who has super powers they were just normal in this movie. I think it's the best Batman movie in a long time, the last few have been pretty bad.

Other than that there isn't much more I think I want to write in here.
Interesting

Today was an interesting day. Work started off pretty simple and then got pretty frustrating later in the day. Although it's frustrating it's pretty cool how they let me go research things and experiment with it and let them know what I find out. I enjoy it.

I don't like to stay at work for lunch because I need some time away from the computer so the mall is where I usually go. Today Jackie saved me from my boring trip to Subway by coming with me to Sue Ann's Bagels. That was a good time, hopefully we can do it more often. She mentioned other people have lunchtime off sometimes too, so you should come too.

The past few days I've been getting some pretty bad headaches and I'm not sure why. I always get them on the weekends (when there is no stress, doesn't make sense does it?) but I just take something and they are gone right away. These seem a litle different since they don't like going away. I'm guessing they have to do with allergies since it hasn't rained in a while.

I finally got the TV tuner card I ordered for my computer early last week. I read it would work in Linux and I was hoping the few sites I found with directions would help me blow right through the installation. I was probably about 3 hours wrong. I spent quite a bit of the night trying to first get Linux to recognize the card and then trying to get MythTV (the program to watch tv with) to work correctly. I finally think I have it though. I like it so far, I especially like how I'll be able to record something and watch something else.
New Design
7/08/2005
I obviously redesigned the blog and all of Void Online. I wanted something simple that I could expand with javascript, java, and whatever else I wanted and I think this is it. I decided on a really graphic-lite version because I can't make any decent graphics anyway. My original idea for the colors was to make it black and white except for links, which would stick out and be the only thing in color. Soon I will make different color schemes and allow you to pick which one you want to see when you visit. That will come with time.

I didn't expect fixing the blog to use the new layout and converting two or three pages to take as long as it did. I probably should be in bed right now since I have to get up for work tomorrow (or today, ha!).

Today was better than yesterday I guess. Work was frustrating for the first part of the day but got better latter on. Other than that, normal stuff.

Remember, call me if you ever are bored and want to eat lunch with me during the week. I know it's a long shot, you have to be really bored to call me up for lunch, but I'm almost always available.

Oh, and I tried Void Online's main page in Internet Explorer but I didn't try the blog yet. The main page looks a whole lot better in Firefox though, so go get it. Don't use IE.
Confonly ??

So today felt odd for some reason. First, I tried French Vanilla coffee that came with my coffee machine and was disgusted. Work was repetitive but not bad. When I got home I just didn't feel right for some reason. I don't know what 'right' is though. I guess I'm thinking too much about things that are bothering me.

Why am I so quiet anyway? I mean it can be good sometimes but I don't understand why I can't come up with interesting conversations as easily as other people can. It makes me come off as shy but I don't think I'm really as shy as I used to be.

I got my second cellphone bill today (online) and since I really only used my cellphone a lot the first two weeks I had it I ended up with about 400 rollover minutes left over. So far this month I've used even less. I'm not sure if I picked the right plan or not. I was expecting to use it a lot more when I bought it but things didn't turn out the way I wanted them to. Oh well, at least I'll have around 1000 anytime minutes by the time I go back to school so I can call anyone whenever I want.

A long time ago on this blog I said I didn't like the CSS programming language/style. Well I've changed my mind. After using it at work and actually learning how it's used, I can see how useful it can be. Sometime I might redesign my site using it. Javascript seems to have good potential as well. I like the stuff you can do with it.

That's it for now?
Misc.
7/05/2005
Today was more of the same mostly. Work was fairly frustrating but I expected it to be. Thankfully, I think I'm through the worst parts of what I was working on. It's funny, the first part of the day goes by really fast for me but after I get back from lunch it always drags on. I think it's because so many people leave early, it makes it hard to do work sometimes. Speaking of lunch, if anyone ever wants to eat lunch with me around noon call my cellphone and let me know. I can go out almost every day (depending on what they have me doing) and eating with people would be cool. I usually end up going to the mall.

Besides work, I went out to the new Gamestop to look at cheap stuff and see if the manager was there, he's a pretty cool guy to talk to. After that I went over to ShopKo to visit Jackie. She seemed to be having a blast helping people at the self-checkout so I left shortly after so she could get back to all her fun. ShopKo has a talking wall-mounted deer in the back of the store. I think it's pretty funny, everyone seems to laugh when they pass by it. I wonder if anyone actually buys it though.

The Linux migration is still as strong as ever. I got Seti@Home back up and running in Linux. They redesigned their site and service recently (I guess?) and it looks pretty neat. My brothers and I have a 'team' there if you want to know how much time my computer has wasted on it. It only shows me on the site (when I wrote this) because I'm the only one who has upgraded to their new account so far.

In order to keep up regular posting, I decided to write here.

Not too much new since last time I posted. I've been looking at buying a coffee machine that uses those coffee pod things so I can make coffee quickly. It would be good for school and home before work. I'll probably end up getting one sometime this week.

Tomorrow (or today I guess, since it's past midnight) I'm planning on going to the fireworks either with my parents or with friend(s). It should be a good time.

I feel like I'm missing school sometimes now. I'm not sure why really, because works is pretty nice and it's good to be with my family and friends, but I miss the challenge of class or just the town of Houghton - I think that might be it. It's a pretty cool place to be. I've been thinking a lot about what to do about schooling. I'm thinking about either getting a math minor and staying the full 4 years, getting a normal degree in 3.5 years then going to grad school, or getting a normal degree in 4 years with a coop thrown in there and maybe going to grad school. It's something I have to think about I guess.
