A Rochester Bike Tour
9/30/2006
I took these pictures last week but I hadn't gotten around to making the "kml" file I needed to in order to display them like this...

I went on a bike ride around parts of Rochester last week and took pictures of notable things and then marked their GPS location after I took the picture. This made it so I now know exactly where the picture was taken and I can show them in Google Earth or Google Maps fairly easily.

Click here to see the "bike tour". The picture names are displayed on the left and where pictures were taken are displayed on the right. The pictures on the left are in order of when I took them. As you are looking at them you can tell the route I took on my bike. I'll eventually put these in the pictures section without the Google Maps display, but I'm burned out for now.

Wake me up when September ends
9/29/2006
(Except it's almost over, so the title makes no sense)

Green Day and U2 played a song together last Monday for Monday Night Football with the Saints returning to the Superdome in New Orleans. It is called The Saints are Coming and is a cover from another band. You can get it on Rhapsody. The performance was pretty cool, they played more than just that song. They started off with Wake me up when September ends and they also went into at least one U2 song that I could recognize, since I'm not a huge U2 fan, before actually going into the cover song that they sang together. It was definitely unique.

I wanted to post about this earlier but I didn't feel like writing something for it. Ashwaubenon has to forfeit four of their first 5 wins because they had a player that was too old. At first I was pretty annoyed that they had someone who was too old on the team but the Green Bay Press-Gazette says that the kid repeated a grade when he moved to the United States. I guess that seems a little better, but that doesn't change the fact that the school's administration let the kid play eventhough he was too old. Apparently he doesn't contribute much to the team, but rules are rules. The thing I do think is stupid is that the school is appealing. What grounds could you possibly have to appeal? "Umm... his birthday changed he's the right age now." So what if he didn't contribute to the 5 wins, the fact remains that the school broke a rule. Yes the Jags are probably still the best team in the conference and most of the area, but they can show that by winning the rest of their games instead of complaining about rules that they broke.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do this weekend, there really isn't much to do anymore. If it's nice I'll probably end up riding my bike a lot, but we'll see. I took some pictures on my bike of the Rochester area that I'll eventually get around to posting, but I did something a little differently with these pictures so I have to do a little more work before they are ready to be shown.

Time to go to work. I feel like I have something else to say but maybe I'll just post it later today or something.
Music
9/24/2006
I've been listening to Three Days Grace and Third Eye Blind lately. I listen to Yahoo radio at work sometimes and God of Wine by Third Eye Blind played and I forgot how much I enjoyed their music. So I've been listening to all of their CDs. Also, I rediscovered Three Days Grace and especially their newest CD, which is excellent. I'll have to figure out which CD I want to use in my car now. Jimmy Eat World's Futures is also in the running, since its already in my car.

I haven't been able to the Packer games for the past two weeks. We actually get two Fox stations here and both of them have the Vikings scheduled instead of the Packers if they are both on at the same time. So one of the stations is blacked out when it COULD be showing the Packers. Kind of annoying. Especially because they played well today, except for their defense. But instead I watched the Vikings vs. Bears which was full of boring defense and penalties. Hopefully they play at different times during the next few weeks.

We didn't go to a movie this week but instead rented one since nothing looked good in the theaters. We rented The Matador which is about a hitman. Then Justin had gotten Lucky Number Slevin from NetFlix so we watched that too, which is also about hit-men. So apparently we had a theme for our movies this weekend. I liked Lucky Number Slevin better out of the two. It has a very unexpected plot. It's great.
Another week passes by

Not too sure what to post about but I thought I'd post anyway.

I really haven't been doing anything special lately. It's been fairly cold out and rainy also so I haven't been able to ride my bike as much as I would like to. I did go out yesterday though and found that my tires are getting a little bit low. I ended up getting a pump at Wal-Mart, so we'll have to see if it's any good.

I'm not sure what movie we're going to tomorrow, there isn't too many good ones left to see. It will probably be a last minute decision.

I watched The Office season premier tonight, it was pretty good. I really like the type of humor that the show brings to TV. There aren't many shows that are like it and that's what I love about it. It's really fun to watch. I just wish the seasons on DVD weren't as expensive as they currently are so I could pick them up.

I've been listening to Jimmy Eat World a lot lately, mostly their Futures CD. It's really good, I like it. I can't wait until their next CD. I'm also excited about Green Day's next CD. Speaking of Green Day, they apparently recorded a song with U2 which will debut next Monday night during the New Orleans Saints first home game since Katrina hit. U2 and Green Day sounds like an interesting combination, so I'm very interested to hear what the result is.
It's the weekend

The canoe trip for work was awesome. I'll admit I didn't really want to go on it that badly but once we got to the place I realized it was going to be a lot of fun. The other intern and I that were in the canoe had some issues at the start (we got turned around backwards and stuck on the side of the river) but after that it was a blast. I'd love to do it again sometime.

We saw The Protector yesterday. It was horrible, the worst movie I've seen all summer. It's a Thai film with a lot of martial arts stuff in it and that's about the only thing worth mentioning. The main character has his two elephants stolen and he goes around beating everyone up trying to get them back. I over-simplified the storyline but yes, the movie sucks just as bad as the plot sounds. The only cool stuff was the martial arts and even that got extremely old. The worst part of the movie was when a 'bad guy' rung a bell and all these skater punk people showed up to try and kill the main character. They tried to kill him by going off ramps/obstacles and doing tricks while trying to hit the main character while they are in the air. It was HORRBILE!

I'm probably going to give in and buy the rest of the Star Wars movies now that I have the original three. I can't just go by and not have the full set. Thankfully, episode I and II are cheap so III is the only one I'll need to spend more than 13 dollars on.
Interesting stuff

It's been a little cold here in the mornings the past week. I've actually had to wear a light jacket to work in the morning. It's kind of refreshing though, makes you feel good for some reason. Thankfully it's warming up tomorrow though because my department at work is going on a canoe trip. I wouldn't want to fall in the water when it's 50 degrees out.

I am really tired right now, just thought I'd throw that out there.

The Star Wars DVDs I mentioned in a previous post came in the mail yesterday. The original theater versions are on seperate bonus discs, which I kind of like better anyway. They even have cool little DVD menu intros with drawings that move around a little and then zoom out to show the whole picture. Trust me, it's cool. The quality of the original versions is not very good though. You can tell it isn't DVD quality by the VHS like fuzzyness that goes through the picture. It also seems darker to me, but I was only watching it on my computer. But now I own Star Wars. I'm surprised I didn't already have it, someone should have taken my nerd badge for that.

The Packers have been making a bunch of questionable moves since their horrific loss to Chicago last week. First they signed WR Koren Robinson who has been in trouble with the law several times. He used to be on the Vikings but they cut him after he was speeding and refused to stop and then led the police on a high speed chase. Oh yeah, he was drunk too. Perfect fit for Green Bay, huh? If you do something stupid in Green Bay and your a Packer player, your career there is pretty much over. Also, today the Packers TRADED Samkon Gado to the Houston Texans for Vernand Morency. Who?? Yeah, that's what I thought too. Apparently we don't want a running game outside of Ahman Green this year. Gado was an awesome guy too, why would you go and trade someone like that.
Because I'm boring...

Justin and I went to see Little Miss Sunshine today. You've probably never heard of it, but it's really good. It's a Fox Searchlight film, so it's kind of on a limited release. It was actually released like a month ago but for some reason Rochester just got it now. The movie starts a little slow but pretty much as soon as they start their road trip to California it is absolutely hilarious. There are so many things I'd like to bring up and say how great that part was in the movie, but I won't spoil it for you. It's one of the better movies I have seen lately.

It's been getting pretty cool out here lately. Today was the first day I didn't even change into shorts after work, which is surprising because when we come back from work our apartment is almost always really hot. It's almost cold out right now (midnight-ish) but it will be really nice to have the cool air around when I'm trying to sleep. Much better than getting hot and having to take the covers off.

A while ago I ordered Star Wars Episodes IV-VI on DVD from Amazon. This may seem uneventful to you, but these are newly released DVDs. See, the ORIGINAL versions of these films, without the added CGI crap they added, cannot be purchased anymore. These new versions of the DVDs are really the versions with the CGI stuff but you have the option to watch the movie in its original form. Unfortunately, they are laser disc rips because somehow LucasArts "lost" the original film so they won't be super high quality. Even if the orignal versions suck really bad, at least I'll have copies of the good Star Wars movies, since I don't have any of them. Now they just need to remake Episode I completely and I'd be satisfied. Although to get back to the point of this paragraph... these DVDs have now shipped and will be here when the postal service feels like delivering it. Apparently it takes 2 weeks to get packages but only several days to get letters. I should have requested better shipping.

I was going to post something about Facebook's new mini-feed thing earlier this week but I think I had Internet problems when I tried to do it. They fixed the problem, as far as I'm concerned. You can now select what you want people to see in your feed. I kind of thought showing who you've added as friends and who's wall you wrote on was a little overboard, and I can now fix that myself. It really isn't as bad as people say it is anymore.

Go Packers!
SPAM
9/04/2006
This weekend my parents and Todd came to visit me before Todd has to go back to school (tomorrow, hahahaha!). We ate at some local places that I've found through people at work and then did some other fun stuff too including geocaching and also taking a trip to the Spam Museum. Yes, the Spam Museum. I had been hearing at work that there was a Spam Museum in Austin, MN (about 45 min away) so I decided it might be an interesting thing to go to. Sunday we took a drive over there and it was worth the trip. It's free to get in and they have a bunch of weird Spam stuff. I also got to try my first piece of Spam. It was a spicy version of the original Spam. It wasn't too bad at first but about half an hour later my mouth had this fatty/bad taste in it. So no more Spam for me. As requested by pretty much everyone I told that we might go there to, I took pictures. You can click here or you can go to the 'pictures' link at the top of the page. Enjoy!

Today I plan on enjoying my day off by sitting around and doing nothing. I may take a bike ride, but ForecastFox is telling me there might be some rain later so we'll have to wait and see.
